Heropreneurs Be Inspired Series comes to London

Heropreneurs is hosting another of our Be Inspired business debates on Tuesday 23 April which will look at how our four entrepreneurs began in business, their successes, failures and examine what the mechanics are of running a business.

Our panellists include former army officer Alex Northcott of Gorkana who launched the company with his business partner Michael Webster, after becoming frustrated by the lack of quality services to help connect PRs and journalists. The duo went on to build a successful business with the journalist database becoming a must-have for the PR industry.

In April 2010, the database business was acquired by Durrants, the premier provider of media monitoring and analysis services, and the merged company was rebranded Gorkana Group in April 2011 when an integrated online media planning, monitoring and analysis service was launched.

Northcott named the business after Sergeant Gorkana, the Gurkha who saved his life, by rescuing him from drowning in a swamp, while he was in the Royal Gurkha Rifles in Borneo.

Our second speaker is James Harrison is one of the co-founders of Sky Futures. James studied at RMA Sandhurst and saw active service in Iraq and Afghanistan working on the frontline as an expert adviser to US airborne forces on their role and strategy in Helmand. After leaving the army James joined Deloitee’s strategy team as a senior consultant in London where he worked on a wide range of strategy projects in both the private and public sectors.

Our other entrepreneurs are Derek Jones, former Fleet Air Arm who set up Acuigen and Arpana Gandhi who is currently fundraising to launch a patented process for safely decommissioning munitions stockpiles globally.

The venue for the debate, which runs from 1800 until 2030 is:

Greater London Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, Fulham House, 87 Fulham High Street, London SW6 3JS
