Entrepreneurs come in many shapes and sizes. Those that succeed share distinct characteristics- vision, strong leadership, an enthusiastic and effective team, great products and services and a clear value proposition.

Having worked as a mentor and adviser to entrepreneurs for over 25 years,  Guy Rigby has seen success and failure, joy and despair. He has witnessed good luck stories and horror stories. At the end of the day, there are clear reasons why businesses succeed or fail.

If you’re thinking of setting up in business, or already have taken the first steps, this lunchtime talk on Monday 15 July will give you plenty of food for thought.

Guy has spent most of his life, building and selling one firm and then working in two others, while pursuing a variety of other activities along the way. These have included being a shareholder and director of a number of different businesses in the property, retail, IT, defence, manufacturing and investment management sectors, with varying degrees of success.

Since 2008, he has been working at Smith & Williamson, leading their entrepreneurs group.  He spends his time advising entrepreneurs and their businesses. It’s a dynamic and challenging environment, particularly in a world plagued by economic turmoil.

His experiences have led Guy to write a book called ’From Vision to Exit’. It’s a definitive guide for entrepreneurs wanting to build and sell a business and you can find out more here.
