Meet Our Winners: Inzpire, winner of the Small Employer of the Year Award

The Small Employer of the Year award, sponsored by OBXteK recognises the contributions of companies with between 5-200 employees, and the 2019 winners are proof that perseverance truly pays off. Inzpire were runners-up for this award in 2018, an achievement in itself, but clinched the title this year. Well done!

Inzpire work in the Defence Aviation sector, providing training and safety services to the UK Armed Forces. The company was founded by 3 ex-military personnel and an impressive 80% of their employees are ex-military. The award seeks to find the small business with the best engagement and employment policies for helping service personnel to transition from military to civilian employment, as well as helping Veterans and dependents realise their full potential in the civilian workforce. Inzpire is certainly a company that embodies this, they have been named for 5 consecutive years as one of the Sunday Times Best 100 employers to work for and they offer a notable commitment to helping service personnel transition to the civilian workforce, including guaranteed interviews and personalised feedback to all ex-Armed Forces personnel who meet their advertised requirements; an ‘expression of interest’ scheme offered to personnel due to leave the Armed Forces within 2-3 years, alongside civilian attachments prior to their departure, enabling transitioning military personnel to adjust to the civilian workforce with confidence. Inzpire also keep retention rates high by mirroring the support offered to service personnel, including 6 weeks annual leave, private healthcare and paid leave for reservists. They say:

“Hiring veterans and dependants has enabled us to become an agile business in areas such as working practices and decision-making procedures. This instilled agility in all areas of the business has given us a competitive edge against must larger companies who cannot offer the same agility.”
