So, you’re thinking of applying for the Heropreneurs Awards, but not sure where to start? Well don’t worry, because we are here to help!
We know that applying for an award, or even nominating someone for an award, can be a daunting process, so we have put together some top tips to help you out and maximise your chances for success!
1. Nominating an individual or a business but can’t answer all the questions?
Don’t worry! We want you to recognise those businesses and entrepreneurs that are deserving of recognition, and we certainly don’t want you to feel unable to do so if you don’t have all the information to hand. If you’re unsure how to answer some of the questions then leave them blank – we will contact the nominee for the information if required.
2. Make sure to give yourself enough time!
Leaving deadlines to the last minute? We’re all guilty of it! The awards close on 11th June, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time to fill out your application form and check you are happy with it, and don’t forget to submit it once it’s ready! We want to hear about your business journey!
3. We’re looking for passion, not perfection!
People are at the heart of every business. Whichever award you’re applying for, be it ‘Sustainable Business of the Year’, ‘Technology Business of the Year’ or anything in between, we want to know about the drive, passion, and motivation that lie behind this business’, or individual’s, journey. Applying for ‘Sustainable Business of the Year’? You don’t need to be single-handedly solving global warming to win! What we’re looking for is evidence that you’re implementing sustainable, ethical practices, and your passion and motivation for doing so. Similarly for the all the award categories, we want to know what makes you passionate about your business. Your writing style isn’t being judged either, we just want to know what sets you/your business apart, however you choose to express that.
4. Don’t forget! Success comes in many different forms.
It’s often human inclination to attribute success to big profits and financial gains, but we don’t always believe that that’s the case. Of course, we want to know about financial successes, but we also believe that success is defined by the achievement of your dreams, provision of a stable life for you and any family you may have, providing opportunities for employees and/or service users, and, above all, giving you a sense of satisfaction. Businesses don’t always need to grow or scale to be successful. Think outside the box and define what makes your business a success for you personally, then take us through those motivations.
5. Tell your story.
We all have a story to tell. We want to hear yours! How does your background contribute to your business success? What skills from your military background (be it as serving personnel, a veteran, or a spouse) have benefited you in your business journey? Make your application personal and relevant to you. We want you to stand out!
6. Think about what makes your business unique.
It takes a huge amount of work to make a success of a business, and we know that all too well. Identify the USP that you have worked so hard to market, and make the most of that in your application. We want you to tell us what sets you apart from all the other nominations.
7. Make sure to include all the relevant information, and provide evidence.
Remember, our judges may not have come across you or your business before. Make sure that the information you provide can be substantiated, and provide evidence where relevant.
8. Ask someone to read your application before submitting it.
We’re not judging your written work, but we do know that it can be awkward to write about yourself and your own achievements. Make sure you’re not selling yourself short! Ask a friend, family member, or someone that you know will shout loudly about your achievements to proof-read your application and make sure there’s nothing you’ve been too modest to mention! We want to hear about all your successes!
9. Remember that the act of applying is a hugely valuable process.
Ever wanted to get your business in front of some major organisations and household names in the business world? Well, this is the way to do it! With top organisations supporting the awards, and senior figures from the business world sitting on our judging panels, this is the quickest way to get your business noticed! Don’t miss out on that opportunity!
Not to mention, if you win, you’ll be invited to our celebratory drinks reception and networking event at the Warwick Business School offices in The Shard, London, as well as winning a major prize from the organisation supporting your award. Sounds pretty good, right?
10. Don’t forget about the ‘Heropreneur of the Year’ category!
Finally, don’t forget our ‘bonus category’, the ‘Heropreneur of the Year’ award! This will be given to the most inspiring individual that we see apply across all of our categories. Tell your story to be in with a chance to be named our most inspiring individual of 2021.
