As we enter the autumn season in 2020, a year that has posed significant difficulties for everyone, especially business owners and those within the charity sector, we have been reflecting on the significant support that we have received from our partners, the Veterans’ Foundation.
In 2019, Heropreneurs was extremely fortunate to be awarded a grant of £30,000 from the Veterans’ Foundation, something which has proven invaluable to us as we have faced the challenges that Covid-19 has thrown, both at us and at the community that we support.
Using the funding from the Veterans’ Foundation, we have been able to streamline processes and expand our operations over the past year. A major part of this project has been the implementation and launching of our new MentorNet platform, through which we have been able to increase the numbers of serving personnel, veterans, and dependants that we have provided essential support to in a time of significant upheaval for many entrepreneurs at all stages of their business journeys. Following the announcement of social distancing measures and the introduction of new guidelines, we have also been able to develop an extensive programme of online webinars, workshops, and networking events, enabling us to offer a wider scheme of support to our community in the safest manner possible.
The Veterans’ Foundation award grants to charities that support military veterans and their families in a variety of different ways. Its founder, Major General David Shaw, has said:
“The Veterans’ Foundation supports serving and former members of the armed forces, operationally qualified seafarers and their dependants, who are in need. We have paid out nearly £4M to over 250 organisations since inception in 2016 and we hope to provide £2M in grants in the next 12 months, although this is perhaps optimistic in the face of the pandemic. We are delighted to support Heropreneurs with a Veterans’ Foundation grant and applaud their work to help veterans establish their own businesses and to gain employment.”
